Shihan Alan Chan

Shihan Alan Chan started his karate training while he was in high school. In 1967 he trained under Shihan Lam King Fung (now 6th Dan, I.O.G.K.F). At about the same time, he initiated and  formed a Karate club in his high school. In early 1970, he joined Hong Kong Goju Kai. Initially he trained in the Kowloon branch, under Sensei Akira Nagata. After a few months, he went to the Hong Kong Goju Kai Honbu, under the direction of Shihan Kai Takahashi (7th Dan). His direct instructor was Shihan Shair Wah Kwan (now 7th Dan, I.K.G.A.). In 1974, after obtaining his Shodan, Shihan Chan immigrated to Canada. In the following year, Shihan Chan joined Canada Seiwa Kai in Vancouver and has been under the direction of Shihan Isao Yabunaka (7th  Dan) since then. Shihan Chan formed a karate club in British Columbia Institute of Technology (B.C.I.T.) and was the instructor from 1976 to 1980. Shihan Chan has been teaching at Renfrew Community Centre in Vancouver since 1975. Shihan Chan was promoted to 6th Dan Renshi in 2002.
