Shihan Yabunaka visits Vancouver

Shihan Isao Yabunaka, Head Instructor of Canada  Seiwakai, came to visit for two weeks in February 2005 from the Honbu Dojo in Ontario. Shihan Yabunaka instructed classes and then conducted promotion tests at both the Vancouver Shibu Dojo and the  White Rock Shibu Dojo. On Saturday, February 12, Shihan Yabunaka gave a seminar at the Vancouver dojo. Many thanks to Shihan Yabunaka for coming to  teach us and helping us so generously. Congratulations to the students who  advanced in the promotion tests.

Congratulations to Sempai Henry Chan, who achieved his Shodan (1st Dan) in the promotion test on Dec 20, 2004 at Vancouver Shibu Dojo. For more photos about the promotion test, please click here.

The Winter Promotion test was taken place on December 16th & 20th, 2004 at Vancouver Shibu Dojo in the Renfrew Community Centre.

The 2004 Karate BC Open Tournament was held on November 27, 2004 at Pinetree Recreational Centre. We had 7 contestants from Vancouver Dojo participating and won 9 medals in the competition: 4 silver and 4 bronze.  Congratulations to all of them! Please click here for more photos.

On Sunday, October 24, 2004 Canada Seiwa Kai gave a demonstration at the new Aberdeen Centre in Richmond, British Columbia. We were the first of four martial arts groups to perform in the main plaza of the centre. About thirty members from our three clubs took part. The demonstration was watched by hundreds of people. Led by Shihan Alan Chan, we demonstrated Kihon (basics); Katas (Taikyoku Jodan, Gekisai Ichi, Saifa, Seipai, Sanchin and Tensho); Kihon Kumite (basic sparring); Bunkai for Kata Saifa (self defense and application of the kata); Tameshiwari (breaking boards); and Jiyu Kumite (free sparring).

Our demonstration was very well received both by the public and the organizers of the martial arts event at the Aberdeen Centre. More photos here.
