Shidoin, Michael Szasz (Vancouver Dojo Assistance Instructor)

3rd Dan

Michael studied Yang style Tai Chi for about 10 years (1973-1983) at the Vancouver Tai Chi Chuan Association under Master Raymond Y. M. Chung. He also learned the short form (24 postures) from Master Shou-Yu Liang. Michael did Tai Chi for health, but then got interested in martial arts. He has been studying Goju-ryu karate at the Renfrew club under Shihan Alan Chan since September 1989.

Michael says, “Karate is physical, mental and spiritual training. The friendships and comradeship in the club are very important. It is great to see young people learn and develop. Karate gives you as much, or more than, you give it. It’s endless learning.”
