Goju Kai karate was founded by Hanshi Gogen Yamaguchi . One of his senior students, now Hanshi Shuji Tazaki established Goju-ryu Seiwa Kai in Japan in 1971. There are now 56 branches of Goju-ryu Seiwa Kai throughout the world, including Japan, Hong Kong, England, Canada, United
States, Australia, Italy and Germany.
Kyoshi Isao Yabunaka  (7th Dan) is head of Seiwa Kai for all of North America. He established Goju-ryu Seiwa Kai in Canada in 1972 at the Renfrew Community Centre in Vancouver, B.C. In 1989 he moved to Ingersoll, Ontario, where he established the dojo at Cami Recreational Centre. There are now seven Goju-ryu Seiwa Kai clubs in Canada, and two in California.
Sei means “truth, honesty, sincerity” and wa means “harmony and peace”. These are the principles on which Seiwa Kai Goju-ryu karate is founded.
